In this booklet, we show you how to clean your wooden floors as well as how to maintain your wooden floors. We’re can even offer you, the option to upgrade to a cleaning and/or maintenance contract and we'll do it for you. This can be arranged according to the type of floor you have and the level of use it receives. Wood floors can sometimes, over time, start to deteriorate very gradually and more often than not, without the customer noticing start to ‘wear through’. until such a time when the protective layer of lacquer actually wears through. It is at this point when the actual wood itself start to become damaged as it receives the impact of footfall, moisture and dust etc directly. We have various systems to help overcome this which falls in to two main categories. 1. Cleaning and 2.Maintenance. As an intro, the following describes each service in a little more detail.

Cleaning

The cleaning processes cover 3 main areas.

1. A Heavy Duty Cleaner – This is usually done around 10 days after the initial Sand & Lacquer and thereafter at a monthly/bimonthly or quarterly frequency. This depends on the usage and you can be advised on this.

2. A Protector – This must be applied with 2 coats every time the Heavy Duty Cleaner is used.

3. Daily Cleaner – This is a diluted solution and should be used when wet cleaned. This may be daily in a commercial environment but in a domestic environment this could be fortnightly or monthly.

Always, always, vacuum before any form of wet cleaning is done and preferably on a daily basis in any environment. Settled dust is one of the most damaging aspects of wooden floors. As dust settles it ‘beds’ into the lacquer and this is compounded by footfall which eventually creates dark marks and further, starts to actually break the protective layer of lacquer. This in turn creates wear and the floor begins to deteriorate and the deterioration starts to spread out to areas where the footfall is lessened.

When wet cleaning your floor always read the instructions carefully and strictly keep to the advice given. Only apply a minimal amount of water to a mop and always ensure the water is clean. Excessive water on a floor, IS NOT GOOD! And can permanently damage your floor. Change the water regularly and repeat instructions if using a cleaner. Akin to the type of film you get when cleaning a window, wet cleaning your floor will create a ‘water layer’. Again minimise this by only using a very slightly damp mop and when dry, ‘buff up’ using a separate dry mop or cloth.

Again, this service is offered by ourselves and you would be given a renewable annual contract. The frequency and cost would be advised when the service is requested. Please go to Maintenance Contract to see more information about this and to book your maintenance.

Maintenance

The maintenance section is a ‘Buff n Coat’ service which is carried out less often but actually involves a ‘de-nib’ or buff of the floor, followed by another coat of the lacquer used.

Again, you’ll be advised on the regularity and cost of this when the service is requested. This service is given to avoid any chance of the ‘wear through’ mentioned. Please go to Maintenance Contract to see more information about this and to book your maintenance.
